Scandinavian companies are increasing their technology investments

1st Aug 2014

A new Kable survey finds optimism across the main Nordic economies (Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway) when it comes to their ICT spending in 2014.

The survey of 220 Scandinavian CIOs/ICT decision makers, found that 39% are planning to increase their ICT budgets by up to 5% in 2014. In 2013 this number was only 22%. Moreover, the number of those planning to decrease their ICT budgets by up to 5% is set to decline by 16% to reach 24% in 2014. Nordic enterprises’ ICT investments are mainly driven by their focus on adopting various advanced technologies as they place increasing emphasis on innovation and business transformation.

Kable expects new and advanced technologies, such as mobility and cloud computing, to gain momentum in the next two years, as Nordic companies are planning to increase their spending on device management, tablet computing, and cloud models, in order to enhance their competitiveness and scalability. Kable’s research finds that at least 70% of respondents are planning to invest in these technologies in the next two years. It is also evident from the survey that spending on technologies such as business intelligence and green IT & virtualization are high on IT managers’ priority lists.

“Most Nordic enterprises prefer buying technologies on-premise rather than as hosted services, yet with the growing need to reduce costs and improve operational efficiencies, the adoption of hosted services is expected to gain traction in the market” comments Koganti Venkat, a Kable Analyst. Meanwhile, the selection of ICT vendors amongst Nordic enterprises is based on their industry specific capabilities with financial stability and competitive pricing also influencing decisions on vendor selection. Given the current competitive scenario, ICT vendors offering specific functionality expertise are also expected to gain significant attention from Nordic enterprises.

Notes

Kable’s survey of the Nordic ICT market covered enterprises across 12 industry sectors. It was conducted in Q4 2013 via an online methodology, with respondents all having ICT decision making responsibility (typically CIOs and IT Managers).

Analysis of Kable’s survey data is contained in its ICT investment trends in the Nordics report. This report and others are available by subscribing to Kable’s Global ICT Intelligence Service at http://intelligence.kable.co.uk/
